Together Again
A chapter on ordinary nights worth remembering
I took the night off because my brother was in town and leaving the next day. We had talked about a hike, but the weather had other plans, and honestly, I was tired. Instead, the four of us went bowling. My brother and I used to bowl with my dad almost every weekend as kids, so being there together again brought back a lot of memories.
We laughed and joked, went to dinner, walked around for a while, and somehow ended up spending the rest of the night at an arcade. By the end of the night, all four of us were laughing harder than we had in a while.
There’s something strange about growing up with someone. My brother and I are different in a lot of ways, and we always have been, but there’s also a familiarity that comes from having known each other for our entire lives. No matter how much life changes, spending time together can bring pieces of the past right back with it.
I’m grateful for nights like this — when we’re all together, having fun and laughing at stupid things. Those are the parts I want to remember.
After bowling, we grabbed dinner and wandered around downtown for a while. No real plans for the rest of the night. I’ve found that some of the best nights happen that way.
We eventually wandered into an arcade. It immediately brought back memories of being a kid and how exciting places like this used to feel. Somehow, they still do.
My brother and I don't see each other very often anymore, but whenever we do, we seem to pick up where we left off. I think that's part of why this night meant so much to me. We all have our own lives, and nights like this don't happen very often.
I just really appreciated having this one.
