Nevertheless

A chapter from Sarajevo

Before traveling to Sarajevo, I thought I knew the story I wanted to tell.

I imagined photographing history, monuments, and reminders of everything the city had endured.

Instead, I began noticing the ordinary moments between them.

A cat in the afternoon light.
Children playing together.
Flowers beneath buildings marked by the past.
People simply living their lives.

Those moments changed the way I experienced the city.

They reminded me that even after unimaginable hardship, life quietly continues.

Nevertheless.

Mačka

Where

I started wondering where everyone was
going

Play

Both

I learned that beauty isn't the absence of sorrow

Tending

I started noticing the quiet ways people cared for the city

As Usual

I found comfort in the ordinary

Meanwhile

Onward

I left quieter than the city found me
